  1. 1) the tale is rather speculative
    2) Donner and Blitzen really are the German words for Thunder and Lightening and the person who wrote the poem spoke GERMAN not Dutch.

  2. Also: Saint Nicholas is not Santa, although Santa is derived from him. The Dutch actually celebrate St. Nicholas (or Sinterklaas, as we call him) on the 5th of December with presents, candy and poems.
