  1. But he sold the rights and script to the only studio that guaranteed he could star in the movie. Without that he wouldn’t have had a career so worked out not bad in the end.

  2. He wrote the script in four days.

At the time he was so broke, he sold his wife’s engagement or wedding ring.

He then sold his dog for $25 because he coudn’t afford to feed him.

Studios like the script and offered him something like $150K for the script.

He said, okay but I get to play Rocky.

    Studios told him no.

He said, well then, no deal, no script, and he moved on. Everyone said he was crazy, take the money.

One studio who wanted the script finally relented and gave him a tryout, and he got the role, and the rest is history.

Stallone starred in the film, and the film went on to win the Academy Award for Best picture that year.

Stallone was one of the top paid movie stars in the world over the next 10-12 years or so.

He bought his dog back from the same guy he sold him to — only the ahole demanded $15K for the dog back.

  3. It’s seldom mentioned that a relatively small part of copyright money ends up with creative content providers, being instead mostly directed into the pockets of assorted Hollywood parasites.

  4. I was about to leave a comment saying ‘why would anyone be surprised that he didn’t own it? He was just an actor in the movie’ But no, he actually wrote Rocky.
