  1. There’s two other horses that have been the dominant sires of thoroughbreds – the Godolphin Arabian and the Byerley Turk.

    Thoroughbred pedigrees are well documented online. You can type in a horse’s name on [allbreedpedigree.com](http://allbreedpedigree.com) and in a few clicks be back to the 1700s. A horse I knew, just given away as nothing in the Middle East, turned out to have grand-sires who were Derby winners and a most illustrious pedigree!
