TIL that although pop cultural references to the 1954 TV show Lassie often includes Timmy falling down a well, Timmy never did fall down a well in the actual show.

Probably because of this [Dave Barry column](https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1985-09-29-8503070678-story.html), although it is about people getting pinned under a tractor, not falling down a well.
> Lassie looked brilliant, in part because the farm family she lived with was made up of idiots. Remember? One of them was always getting pinned under the tractor, and Lassie was always rushing back to the farmhouse to alert the other ones. She’d whimper and tug at their sleeves, and they’d always waste precious minutes saying things like: “Do you think something`s wrong? Do you think she wants us to follow her? What is it, girl?” etc., as if this had never happened before, instead of every week. What with all the time these people spent pinned under the tractor, I don’t see how they managed to grow any crops whatsoever. They probably got by on federal crop supports, which Lassie filed the applications for.
Thought this was common knowledge. Are you one of today’s lucky 10,000?
I liked the one where Timmy was doing helicopters outside the convenience store.
I remember an episode where somebody told Lassie to go to the barn and get a C-clamp.
Thats a shame.there goes my day…thanks!
That lying fucking dog.
