TIL that Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was not born in India as widely thought. His birthplace was in Lumbini, which is in modern day Nepal. Lumbini is now a World Heritage Site and a popular pilgrimage destination.

Buddha is more like a title than a name. The Buddha’s name is Gautama, often prefixed with Siddartha, which is something like “Prince”, as he came from a wealthy and powerful family.
