TIL that Coca-Cola created Surge in the 90s to compete with Mountain Dew & internally called it “MDK” which stood for Mountain Dew Killer

Murder Death Kill
I remember surge. That shit was awesome. I haven’t seen it in 20 something years. I still remember the commercial.
This stuff was fuel to fight siblings over the tv remote
TANTRUM!!!
I remember waiting in line to see The Lost World: Jurassic Park and the theater had just gotten Surge and was giving everyone in line free samples.
Simpler times.
We’ve had it in the states since 2015.
It still exists in Norway, under the name Urge.
SSSSUUUUUUUURRRRGGGGGEEEEE!!!
I remember me and some friends projectile vomiting that stuff back in like 98. We thought it could be a good idea to see how many we could chug. It wasn’t.
Does anyone remember Jolt? “Twice the caffeine as competitors.
and then eventually red bull came along and changed the game forever
We’ve had it in the States since 2015.
I feel like I am taking crazy pills. I distinctly remember there being an MDK soda that was different than surge. I really liked it, it tasted like lime jello. I was sad when it stopped being available I feel like it lasted for a very short time in like the late 90s or early 2000s.
After some research it may have been dnL. It was 7up upside down. I don’t know why I thought it was mdk, I still swear I remember and MDK bottle that looks similar to Vault or something like that but I may just misremember. The label is pretty clear in my head but I must have just made it up. Green/black label with MDK on it. Just a glimpse into the mind of someone slowly losing it.
You know how they killed surge? By telling everyone it shrinks your dick.
Surge was amazing. There was a similar drink in the early 2000’s called Vault was was also really good.
I remember that stuff. It came out around the same time i was taking automotive classes in high school. Its green hue always kinda reminded me of old school ethylene Glycol anti-freeze. Then one day I was working under a car that we’d just drained the cooling system on and a bit of leftover coolant dripped in my mouth. I shit you not, it tasted JUST like Surge.
If you mixed Surge and Jolt Cola you got super powers!
