TIL that hummingbirds gather spider silk to bind their nests together. They will wrap these silk threads around other materials they collect, such as moss and lichen, to create not only a soft and durable but stretchable nest to accommodate the birds’ growing nestlings.

  1. I have no explanation for this, but there is a pair of hummingbirds that live somewhere around our house and they come and “investigate” when I play my guitar on the front porch. It is a little uncanny, and it is very consistent and predictable.
