TIL that if a Tesla car senses it is about to crash, it will shut off its Autopilot system one second before impact. This is done so that if Tesla is ever sued, they can show that the self-driving functions were off at the time, thereby avoiding any liability.

I seriously doubt that would eliminate, or even mitigate liability, if they had liability for the accident.
