TIL that in 1795, Mary Wollstonecraft travelled to Sweden in order to locate a shipment of silver her husband, Gilbert Imlay, was trying to get past the British blockade of France. Mary had recently tried to take her own life, and believed the venture would save her marriage; it did not.

  1. Small wonder it didn’t save their marriage when they were never married in the first place.
