TIL that, in 1935, the BBC set up a sub-committee to devise a word for ‘users of television apparatus’; before settling on ‘viewer’, terms considered included ‘auralooker’, ‘visionnaire’ and ‘teleobservist’.

I’m going to use teleobservist on my wife later today.
The reason we know time travel hasn’t been invented is because no one has gone back to make sure we all become “auralookers”
