TIL that in August, 1976 North Korean soldiers killed two American soldiers attempting to cut down a tree in the De-militarized Zone. In response the US and South Korea sent 873 infantry-men including special forces, 27 helicopters and multiple fighter jets and bombers in order to cut down the tree.

He cut it down and my neighbor ran after him and my husband says “I cannot tell a lie, I drank a 30 case of Hamm’s before chopping down that teee” and then he proceeded to get ripping drunk with our neighbor and they went on a tree chopping trip to western canada

The whole story is pretty crazy, and a good example of little things getting way out of hand because of stupid pride.
Why even bother?
