TIL that in May 1987, 300,000 people, in celebrating the Golden Gate Bridge bridge’s 50th anniversary walked across the span – flattening the normally arched roadbed, and causing some to become sick.

Wow, that sounds like a nightmare. Stuck for hours in a sea of people while the bridge sways, no thank you.
Engineer here. I saw it on TV and it scared the shit out of me.
Most who got sick had been drinking heavily.

And damnit, I missed it. We had a big Art Deco party the night before, and I thought I would just lie down and rest my eyes for a few minutes before it was time to go over there. I woke up WAY late in the day. Oh well.
