TIL that Kratos is the name of an actual Greek god, but the creators of the God of War games were unaware of this when they created their main character Kratos. Ironically, the games’ Kratos frees Prometheus from his rock while the mythological Kratos was the one who chained him.

They knew what they were doing.

It was the best of times. It was the blurst of times.
There were countless gods and goddesses in Greek mythology, so it’s possible they didn’t know. The original *God of War* was pretty shallow, in terms of mythology.
Oh yeah, they just pulled the name of a ancient god for their game about an ancient god out of thin air and it just happened to be the same.
