TIL that Mel Brooks initially titled ‘The Producers’ as ‘Springtime for Hitler’, named after the fictitious musical that drove the plot. Universal expressed an interest, but wanted it to be changed to ‘Springtime for Mussolini’, as ‘Mussolini’s nicer’.
