TIL that Ruth Wakefield, the first person to ever make a chocolate chip cookie, made it by accident. She assumed that the chocolate chips would melt from the baking process and create a chocolate infused cookie, but they softened and retained their individual form.

1. All hail Ruth Wakefield! I made chocolate chip cookies yesterday and gave them out to some retail people/friends who are aways good guys in spite of low wages. There’s nothing like a still hot cookie crumbling in your mouth

2. I’ve always had a hard time believing this story. If she’s been baking for a while, she would know that cold chocolate pieces wouldn’t incorporate with the dough.

3. I wish she had been correct as I don’t really like chocolate chips but I love the cookies. I just eat around the chocolate chips.
