TIL that Sean Connery (James Bond) turned down Galdaf role on Lord of the Rings and lost 400 million dollars because he didn’t understand the script.

But he understood League of Extraordinary Gentlemen????
Downvote for butchering Gandalf.
Edit: but upvote for nailing Connery
But he understood Zardoz? 🤣
Instead, he decided that producing and starring in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a better use of his talents.
$400mil? I don’t think the role of Gandalf brought in $400mil for the actor so it’s not really fair to say he lost out on $400mil, is it?
Honestly a good decision imo, I just can’t picture Connery being Gandalf.
And thank Christ for that. McKellen is a real actor.
Galdaf, Wizard, with his companions Bimbo the halfwit and the seven dwarfs led by Prince Theremin. Oh the adventures they had!
I don’t know his attitude, but it could’ve been very noble/humble to pass it along to someone else.
Or it’s because he made a dumb fucking decision, what do I know?
Lost and did not gain are two different things
I dont think he would have wanted to film 3+ films back to back anyway. They would have recast by return, white gandalf as a new actor.
But he’d still be long dead by now
So….He understood Zardoz?
thank god.
Fly you foolsh
Am not surprised. Have you seen him on celebrity Jeopardy? Not the sharpest knife in the drawer…
I mean, I think these are great reasons for turning down a role. Good for him
This is the only movie I ever walked out of because it was so obtuse I was falling asleep.
