Wasn’t it drained on purpose by the USSR?
I’ve been to the northern part, where the sea used to be.
It’s bizarre. Beyond some old boats you’d never know there was ever water there let alone a sea. The locals used to have a livelihood and now have zip.
The USSR elect stupidly drained/diverted it for irrigation purposes.
One of the worlds greatest ecological fuck ups.
