TIL that the Baltimore Ravens name is from the poem ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allen Poe who lived and died in Baltimore. In 1996 residents of Baltimore were polled on a name for their new NFL team and Ravens won by an overwhelming 21,108 votes. The Americans and Marauders were a distant second and third.

  1. I bet writing titles of Ravens games was easy for the first few years.

  2. Bombers was also high on the list of contenders. I think they made the right call. Although, it would have been nice if Mr. Irsay had left the Colts name, history, etc. where it belongs before relocating the team to Indianapolis in the middle of the night.
