  1. It’s generally not necessary unless you’re a runner, and have odd-sized feet. Runners with narrow feet often end up lacing their shoes tighter than people with regular sized feet, and in that case, something like this is helpful.

    Otherwise just do what feels comfortable. As long as your foot isn’t sliding around in your shoe while you’re running, you’re doing it right.
