  1. They were not using the imperial system. This is a common mistake. The Imperial system was never adopted or used in the United states. They were using United States customary units. Some of the measurements are different from Imperial.

    The very article you linked states this.

  2. The fact that the US hasn’t converted to metric is absurd. I hate having to deal with American companies that need to have the units spoon fed to them, as if any of their measuring system makes sense.
