TIL that the Simpsons character Ned Flanders is named after Flanders Street in Portland Oregon, where the show’s creator, Matt Groening grew up.

Stupid, sexy Flanders
Yeah, about 75% of Simpsons characters are named after the alphabetized streets in NW Portland.
There is a MORE fun story behind Mr. Burns’ name.
When he was very young, Groening grew up in Springfield Oregon (yup). One of the first things he really remembers happening outside of his family, was the historic Montgomery house catching fire. His father (?) brought home a newspaper with the headline “Montgomery Burns!”, and that stuck with him since.
There are several street signs that have a “D” added to the “NE Flanders St.” because of course there would be.
Aren’t most of the characters named this way?
Okelidokeli.
this isn’t interesting at all.
