TIL that the spellings “per cent” and “percent” are both correct, the difference is that “per cent” is used mainly in Britain and Canada, whereas “percent” is most preferred in the US

That’s weird. I’m in uk and I’ve never seen per cent
Also British, never seen anything but percent ever.
As a Canadian engineer I can pretty confidently say that we do not spell it “per cent”.
Yeah, not true
Its % bro
Canadian here never seen it spelled per cent only percent
Only ever seen ‘percent’ growing up in my Canadian neighbourhood.
In India, ‘per cent’ is the standard spelling. I’ve never seen it spelled ‘per cent’ in the UK, but as with many spellings in Indian English, it’s probably archaic British English.
When I see per cent I think per every cent. When I see percent I think of percentage.
I suppose it makes sense since there is also permille (‰) and permyriad (‱).
I always use “per-mille” (1000‰ = 1, 500‰ = .5, etc) just to fuck with people.
In a lot of old books I see it as “per cent.” with the period even if it’s in the middle of a sentence. Like the “cent” is an abbreviation for something.
I never even thought of that! Seems to me that per cent would be the most proper though
