Not to mention that many are now sold without an actual outsole.
By that I mean they have an insole – the soft part your foot touches, a midsole – the foam that really cushions your foot, and then … nothing. Ordinary shoes have a hard rubber outsole that may only be a few mm thick, but that last 20x as long as the midsole naterial.
