TIL that towards the end of his life, George III’s health had deteriorated so greatly that he was incapable of knowing or understanding that he was declared King of Hanover in 1814, or that his wife died in 1818.

I remember one historian describing him spending his final years blindly groping the walls of his palace, speaking with the ghosts of the people he’d harmed in the past.
But that was always the problem with George III, is it seems nobody can talk about the guy without impressing their own opinion on what he was about. Those opinions constantly change with time.
So dementia?
