TIL the American Cheetah, Miracinonyx trumani, is thought to be the main reason why Pronghorn are the fastest mammals in the Western Hemisphere, as the are much faster than any extant predator.

  1. Yes. I have had a good grasp of why animals evolve for a long time and had a big question mark in my mind regarding why pronghorns were so damned fast. Then the papers came out about the North American Cheetah, AHA!
