TIL the artificial sweetener sucralose was discovered when a researcher misunderstood an order to “test” the compound and interpreted it as “taste” instead. The researcher found it to be exceptionally sweet.

isn’t it amazing how many things are discovered by accident.
One of the characters in mass effect andromeda has a rock tasting OCD.
Tasting things is using one of your primary senses and should not be undervalued in scientific research.
That could have ended very poorly.
