TIL The bullet ant’s sting is no longer considered the most painful in the animal kingdom. It now goes to Polistes carnifex, a paper wasp from Central and Southern America.

is it because the Polistes carnifex upped its game, or because the bullet ant just isn’t trying any more?
Also, not proven. One man’s experience is not an actual rating.
There are 3 species that share the 4+ rating on the Schmidt sting pain index AND the Starr sting pain scale — the bullet ant, the tarantula hawk, and the warrior wasp.
This single man’s experience colors his judgement of other stings. And he doesn’t even do a comparison of the other 2 species.
