TIL the color orange was named after the fruit orange, and not vice versa. Prior to its naming, it was referred to as yellow-red (ġeolurēad).

The history of colors is crazy. It is believed that our eyes actually didn‘t develop the ability to distinguish blues until very recently. Some decent links in this.
