At great risk of oversimplifying this, I wonder if the process was.
The letter ‘J’ was often used for the letter ‘I’.
Thus Iscah becomes Jscah and Jscah phonetically comes out pretty close to Jessica.
Now imagine David Tennant shouting “ISCAH!” instead in Marvel’s “Iscah Jones”
