TIL the record for fastest NYC – LA “Cannonball Run” drive was done in a 2016 Audi S6 modified to mimic a Ford Taurus and add a 45-gallon trunk-mounted fuel cell. The drive was done by Arne Toman and Doug Tabbutt in 25 hrs, 39 min. with average speed of 112 mph and top speed of 175.

I used to think that was cool but now I think it’s reckless and puts so many people at risk. If that guy rear ended me on the highway while my kid was in the car it would kill them.
Why did they modify it to look like a Taurus?
There was a great documentary called [32 Hours 7 Minutes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY_7ofmgdh8&ab_channel=32Hours7Minutes) that told the tale of those old races, and another record breaking run several years ago.

Apparently, During all the lock downs, people took advantage of it and got it under 24 hours.
I’d never get that lucky. Some dipstick is always in the left lane…
