TIL The song, ‘Yankee Doodle’ is of English origin and was originally meant to mock disheveled Americans soldiers. Macaroni is referenced because it was a wig worn by dandies and slang for being a fop. The song dates back to 1755 but by the 1780s was adopted as a source of pride by the Americans.
