TIL the Vietnam war went on for TWENTY YEARS. 1955-1975. Maybe common knowledge inside the US but as a Brit I had no idea it started in the 50s. No wonder it’s of such huge cultural significance, really puts is in perspective. Mostly all hard fought years as well, an entire generation lost. GD.

  1. Issue is how long it went on when they knew they couldn’t win, just to save political careers! How many people didn’t just so some politician don’t need to be the one who ‘lost’ Vietnam.

  2. I didn’t know it was quite so long but yeah, the US weren’t the only ones sticking their oar in too.

  3. I had no idea it went on for so long either. My father is a Vietnam vet and it changed him for the worse. He’s only ever mentioned anything about it to me once in my entire life and that was in relation to a model helicopter he bought me that was similar to the ones he flew in while over there. Many countries including Australia treated returning soldiers like utter crap and it’s a shameful part of our history

  4. i just want to clarify, after you stated an entire generation lost, what does GD mean?

good day? good? god dammit? god?

its very important to know as it can change the entire tone of the post
