TIL there is a local government (county) in Queensland, Australia called the ‘Shire of Banana’, and it’s not named after the fruit.

It was sort of indirectly named for bananas though. The story goes it’s named after a locally beloved bull which was buried there, who happened to be yellow colored and thus named banana. The name was given to the settlement in the late 19th century, just about the same time they started growing bananas in the area (Queensland). I think this was all around the 1870’s to be more specific, if I remember right.
RIP Australia
