TIL there is a tradition of leaving coins on military veterans’ gravestones. Penny = the grave was visited. Nickel = visitor trained at boot camp with the deceased veteran. Dime = visitor served with the deceased in some capacity. Quarter = visitor was present when the veteran passed away.
