TIL there was a conflict called the Pastry War, or the First Franco-Mexican War, which began after a French pastry chef’s shop was attacked and resulted in the French navy blockading all Mexican ports as well as seizing the city of Veracruz.

Something like this happened on Darwins Voyage of the Beagle.
A blank cannon shot of welcome from a town went wrong and killed someone so the British sent a warship and bombed the town.
Seems like a bit of an over-reaction on the part of the French.
Colonial powers are always looking for pretexts for “intervention.” The US occupied Veracruz again some years later when some sailors were arrested and released for being out-of-bounds.
