TIL Thomas Edison controlled most of the film industry in New Jersey which annoyed smaller independent producers and filmmakers. They retaliated by moving their independent films to Hollywood, and eventually became Universal, Paramount and 20th-century Fox.

Edison was kind of a prick.
Edison got a lot of famous stuff under his name but he was a real prick. He’s not a great inventor, just a cut throat businessman who stole from other and destroyed competition.
Tesla was the real genius.
