TIL under German law, self-driving cars must be programmed to avoid human death at all cost. This means the car is allowed to destroy property, accelerate beyond legal speeds, and hit animals to avoid hitting a human.

Can they, through inaction, allow a human to come to harm, though?
But does it protect the human inside over the human outside?
Discussion like this both interests me a great deal and is also the reason I will never own a self driving car… ever.
It’s the Trolley problem, but with programmed logic deciding the outcome 😖 what happens when your electric death machine chooses to endanger/end its driver’s life in order to avoid ending one or more lives outside the vehicle? No thank you… not for me.
