  1. Yup, and is a significant reason why Haiti continues to be an impoverished nation today. The country had to take loans from the United States to pay France. Haiti finished paying the principal on those loans around 1911 and didn’t finish paying the interest until 1947. Imagine if Haiti had been able to keep those billions of dollars over 120+ years, the amount of economic and social development that country could have had. Oh and CitiBank is the bank that facilitated everything.
